With over 600,000 military
dependent children attending public schools across the nation, these mobile
students often present special needs in adjusting to new school
environments. Personnel within the Student Services Department attempt to
identify, support, and build resilience in military children by coordinating
Student-to-Student "buddy partnerships," record reviews to ensure appropriate
curricular enrollment, and use of Interactive Counseling Centers that allow
students to see and connect with personnel at the transfer school.
Student Services personnel
attend specialized sensitivity training via Transition Counselor Institutes
offered through the nationally acclaimed
Military Child
Education Coalition. Ft. Bragg, Pope Air Force, and Reserve School Liaison
Officers are invited to professional development opportunities hosted by Student
Services in order to enhance communication and service delivery to military
families.
